FREE Prop 4U & the 1st iClone CARTOON starring "Doctor Dribble"

Firstly, I hope you all had a nice Christmas.
I just finshed producing a HOW TO video on iClone Machinima Filmmaking Tips & technique for www.expertvillage.com . It will be posted there in a few weeks and I will be sure to share the link here. But in the tutorial, I show how I make an iClone movie. And I decided to use two of the characters that I sell at www.icloneuniverse.com . One of them is Loni the Starlet , who is the character I used to create the Dorothy Ainsly Character from my "Biffle and Shooster" series. The star of this short cartoon is Doctor Dribble. I needed to make a doctor's office and got by with a few props I already had. But I also added my own prop creation, an EYE CHART. You may DOWNLOAD THE EYE CHART PROP HERE. And you can click the player below to watch "Doctor Dribble" in his first iClone cartoon. Enjoy!

FREE Character 4U: Johnny Depp as "SWEENEY TODD"

I know what you're saying, ... yesterday, sweet innocent snowmen, and today, throat slashing serial killers? All in a days work for a man with ADHD. Ok, I know he's not a Christmas character. Would have been great for Halloween. But the new screen version of the musical, "Sweeney Todd" is all a buzz and it looks great! I can't wait to see it. Once again, the team of Tim Burton and Johnny Depp are back, to give us more gothic beauty. Johnny Depp gets to play another cool character. I swear, when I die, I want to come back as Mr. Depp. Chicks dig him, guys wanna be him, he's rich, lives in the French Riviera, and plays cool characters for a living. And the guy can sing too! Gotta love Johnny. So here's an iCLONE character I just made, based on his Sweeney. I made him from the Jack character that comes with iClone. If anyone has an old time barber razor for this guy, perhaps you can share it with me and everyone else. I had to use a scaled down knife for the video below. Click the player and see "Sweeney" in action. Gotta go get a shave now. Enjoy!

"ELF ESTEEM" : a holiday comedy 4U (and a FREE X-mas Tree Prop)

A few days ago, I posted a link to the latest 12 minute "Biffle and Shooster" Comedy. Well, I realized that we needed a Christmas special (and a Colorized one at that!). So I Emailed Nick (the writer of all these shorts) and told him my idea. Within an hour he sent me an adorably funny script (the guy's a freakin' writing machine!). Over the past 2 days, this film took me about 10 hours to make in iClone. In this "short" short, the boys (Biffle and Shooster) play two of Santa's elves, who give the big guy a list of demands for workplace/shop improvements.

Consider this film (and prop), my Holiday gift to all of you. Now go grab some eggnog and enjoy Biffle and Shooster in, "Elf Esteem". Merry Christmas!

"The Opera-tives" : a new iClone comedy

I know I promised to add more Christmas Characters for you guys, and I will, I promise. But I finally finished the latest "Biffle and Shooster" episode, "The Opera-tives". It's long over due. For those of you not familiar with the series, ... this is a series created by me entirely in iClone. It was written by actor/comedian, Nick Santa Maria, and based on characters by Nick and his friend, (another actor/comedian), Will Ryan. It's in the style of the old Hal Roach American comedy classics, and stars the fictitious comedy duo of "Biffle & Shooster". In this latest feature farce, the boys are now working for a famous Opera singer, and all heck breaks loose when they have to fill in for him. So call the kids, grab some popcorn, sit back and enjoy, "The Opera-tives".

FREE Christmas Character 4U: "ABOMINABLE"

When I was a kid, I loved when Christmas rolled around. I still do. But what I remember loving the most, was all the cool Rankin & Bass Clay-mation specials that would air on TV. I realize now, that the catchy songs to these wonderful Holiday classics, would later be the inspiration to most of the children's songs I've written for many shows. So to start off the Holiday Season, I've made my own iClone version of the "Abominable Snow Monster" Character from "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer". I'm hoping that iClone eventually has more cartoon type body shapes in future releases of iClone. But for now, he looks pretty good as he is. So enjoy this gift from me to you. Remember, he's a copyrighted character, so please just use him or fun and not for profit. I'll try to make more before Christmas gets here.

FREE Halloween Character 4U: "SALLY"

Halloween is just around the corner. Man, I love it!!! One of my favorite movies is "Nightmare Before Christmas". I always loved the "Sally" character. So ugly, and lovely all at the same time. Tim Burton has an amazing talent for taking the odd, dark, and scary, and somehow making it child-like, appealing and beautiful. About a year ago, I made this iClone character version of Sally, and shared it with other users. So if you didn't know me then, here she is again, for you to add to your custom character library. Enjoy, lovely 'Sally".

FREE Cute 'lil Character 4U: "CARTOON DOG"

I grew up on toons. Warner Brothers Loony Toons were by far, my favorite. Growing up in New York City, I always thought the Disney cartoons were a bit corny. Characters like Bugs Bunny & Daffy Duck always had such an edge to them. But now as an adult, I respect all animators and their work. I've often tried to create cartoon-like characters in iClone. I have a few at The Reallusion Content Store and at www.icloneuniverse.com . But I made one today which I'd like to share with all of you. The neat thing about this little fellow is that his mouth and eyes animate the way any other iClone characters eyes and mouth would. So download him and make your own toon flick. Enjoy.

FREE HALLOWEEN CHARACTER 4U: "Winnie Witch"

Halloween is just around the corner. I LOVE Halloween! So does my young daughter, Hali. I made this iClone character for her, and she says I can share it with all of you. She calls her "Winnie Witch". Winnie is the littlest witch with the biggest heart. Hali says she relates to this character, and has created a little story behind her. She says the kids at school call Winnie, "Minnie Winnie", 'cause she's small for her age. They also tease her, shouting, "Minnie Winnie, Minnie Winnie, Oh So Weird and Not Too Pretty". But while all the "popular" girls at school are dressing up like Princesses, Bratz, and Barbie, ...non-conforming Winnie sticks to the traditional dark theme of Halloween, and enjoys every second of it. She might even befriend some ghouls who enjoy kicking "popular girl" butt.

A Breathtaking Example of iClone Filmmaking

I've been a very bad blogger this Summer. I've been sooooooo swamped with other projects that I have not been able to update this blog the way I used to. My humble apologies to all you loyal visitors. But I had to stop what I was doing after seeing this absolutely stunning video made by
Neil Armstrong of www.iclonetutorials.com .
I was simply blown away by it. The actual demo "silent film" demo doesn't start until halfway through the introduction segment of the video. So make sure you watch the entire thing. You will not be disappointed, and you will most definitely walk away truly inspired about the "endless possibilities" within iClone. Bravo, Neil! Make sure you join Neil's forum at www.iclonetutorials.com and learn, learn, learn from this brilliant man and his talented community over there.

Meet Massimo, and his VERY Cool Experiments in iClone

So sorry for the long delay in posting anything new here. Been a really busy Summer so far. Bear with me for more FREE iClone stuff coming very soon. But I wanted to introduce you all to an iClone artist in Italy, named, Massimo. Massimo is a forty one year old Perugia resident, who simply loves iClone. Many people double audio of famous films. He doubles the actual visuals by re-creating them in iClone, and then adding the original soundtrack. He has done so with his iClone versions of "Cliff Hanger (which had me at the end of my seat)", "Dr. Strangelove (Very funny scene)", and more. He also experiments with moving props, accessories and has achieved really nice results with layering. Plus, he recreates famous art pieces in iClone as well. You've got to CHECK OUT HIS iCLONE MOVIES HERE . Really nice work, Massimo! It's always nice to see iClone users taking chances and remaining passionate about the possibilities.

BLOG READER SHARES CHARACTER WITH U

It's always nice when someone shares their iClone work. Someone finally took me up on my offer to post files here for sharing.
A loyal reader of this blog, named Wayne Randall, was kind enough to send me this interesting iClone character he made. He asked me to share it with all of you. I think this character creation is really cool. I love when people take the time to be unique and creative with their characters. This character has a re-textured tank top, and he made very nice use of the character's hair, giving him a very funny look. He also took the time to get creative with the face morph sliders, as well as shrinking down the head and using the MINIATURE body size to give the illusion of a very BIG boned character (both of which I had mentioned in an earlier post). Good Going! Wayne calls this character "Gettaboutit". Must be an inside joke. But he's definitely a fun character. Big thanks for sharing, Wayne. And like I said, if you have something you too would like to share, send me some files and I'll post them.

Nasty Little Hobbits: (TWO FREE Characters 4U)

I've said it many times here before, ... I love "Lord of the Rings". One of the very first movies I ever made in iClone, was a short film called, "A Hobbit's Tale, ... Sort Of" (Rated PG). It starred two very perverted little Hobbits, named Shnilly and Shneggle. Shnilly moonlights as an exotic dancer, and Shneggle is her infatuated customer, who's trying to quit his addiction to hobbit lap dances. But he's finding, it's a hard "hobbit" to break.

Machinima and iCLONE

A few years back, I bought my daughter a Playstation 2. One of the first games we played was "Lord of the Rings: Return of the King". After battling Orcs and casting Wizard spells for about a week, I had realized something kind of cool. By controlling the camera and the motions of the characters in the game, you could operate them kind of like puppets. I'm a puppeteer, so this fascinated me. I further thought, "Wow! And if you could grab each scene, edit it and add your own soundtrack, you could make a 3d animated movie". Well at the time I had no idea that millions of people across the world were already doing this by an art form called Machinima. I made my first animation test using a bunch of Marvel and DC comics Superheroes I made in iClone a year ago. I sent the animation test clip to my cousin in NY. He looked at it and commented "Cool, ....machinima.". I asked him, "What the hell is Machinima"?" He then gave me the scoop. Well here it is twelve months later, and it's nice to see that iClone has become a new engine for a few Machinima filmmakers. However, I'd personally like to see more Machinima filmmakers use iClone as their engine of choice. Especially because of the fact that in the end, you own the rights to your movies, something you cannot do with other engines. But regardless, I grabbed a bunch of resources from www.machinima.com , and have listed them below. Check 'em out, and start making movies!

FREE Sexy Character 4U: "VIXEN"

Been a while since I shared a hot babe character here. So here she is. I recently created this for a client, based on a design he had. However, there were some limitations with the templates available in iClone, to do the design justice. I'm an incurable perfectionist, and if I can't get it right, I'd rather not take someone's money for something less than perfect. Nevertheless, she came out pretty hot. If you want to make sexy females in risque lingerie, just surf the net to find images of naughty lingerie. You can tell your spouse it's for creative research.

Enjoy this "Vixen" (And I don't mean one of Santa's reindeer's, although I wouldn't bark at waking up to find her under my X-mas tree.)

Another Super Hero 4U: "IRON MAN"

Ok, I'm going Super Hero nuts this week. A few days ago I said I would post my version of Iron Man here. Well, here it is for your enjoyment. Like I said earlier, I used the Football player character template that came in iClone. You can get some great use out of that particular template. I think this MAY be the first time I ever shared THIS version of the character. There was another version I shared a while back at one of the forums, but it had a hand drawn face as opposed to this more detailed one. FREE Character 4U: "Spidey"

Well, the new Spiderman movie is out. And, man, what a fantastic movie. In my opinion, it's the best of the three. It's an amazing roller coaster ride of action, suspense and emotion, which had me and my daughter laughing, cheering, and even crying. But I'm not here to give a movie review, but rather to share an iClone character file with you. When Reallusion came out with the body suit template, I immediately got to work and made a bunch of iClone characters based on Superheroes. One of the first heroes I made was "Spiderman". At the time, I didn't realize that you could take a photo texture, or an image of Spidey's face, and just slap it onto the template. So for "Spidey" here, I literally hand drew (in PHOTOSHOP) each detail onto the template. It's not perfect, but it didn't come out too bad either. So here it is for you to enjoy. Remember, Spiderman is a trademarked character, so please only use this "loving tribute" file for fun. Oh and, you can download his arch enemy, "Venom", right here.

"The Case of the Missing Plot" (an iClone comedy short film)

When I was a kid, I grew up watching and loving the old comedy shorts made by Hal Roach. I was a huge fan of the "Our Gang" or "Little Rascals", as they were later called. And I especially loved Laurel & Hardy. For a while now, I've been wanting to make a short film in iClone, but I've had somewhat of a writers block. I called a good buddy of mine, Nick Santa Maria, and asked for help. Nick is an extremely talented individual who is also passionate about the same "old school" comedy classics. He immediately sent me a script that he wrote about a fictitious comedy duo from the 1930's, called "Biffle & Shooster". I got to work, and well, here it is for your enjoyment. I tried to post it on YOUTUBE but it was a minute and a half too long, so I posted it at Revver. When you get there, just choose FLASH or QUICKTIME, ...whatever you prefer to watch it in.

FREE Character 4U: "Buzz Lightyear"

One of the first "movie based" characters I ever created in iClone, was this version of "Buzz Lightyear" from the movie "Toy Story". To make him, I simply used the football player character template that came with iClone. You can really get a lot of great mileage out of that particular template. I've used it for character's like "Wolverine", "Iron Man" (I'll post IRON MAN in a few days), and several others. Add some armor texture to it and you've got a great suit of armor. I made "Buzz" here in version 1.0. So at the time I was not able to texture accessories. But now that 2.0 is here, there's no reason why any of you can't make his transparent glass helmet. So grab this character now (if you don't have him already) and see what you come up with.

Gaming Site Using iClone Newscasters

Binary Picture Show is an amazing site for gamers, created by Leo Lucien - Bay, otherwise known as Dr. Nemesis. It's a must see site for any gamer today, with a forum, downloads, latest news and more. Dr. Nemesis has recently added a blog site to the main site called Gnews. How does this relate to iClone? Well, rather than just read the news from the page, the major stories are presented by "iClone created" news readers.
And they're very cool
iClone characters too, like the lovely Lady Mainframe. I had a chance to talk to the good doctor and asked him to explain the connection between iClone & his site(s) ......

Doctor Nemesis: The two things the video reports need are lively facial animation, and the ability to create the videos relatively quickly.
iClone, (with the help of Crazytalk) is the easiest way to do that, as they make it possible to easily tweak the facial, or character animation
to suit what's being said. The show was first made using the Quake 2 engine, which was an achievement but it didn't give the control or speed needed to get reports out in a timely fashion. We hope that in the near future we'll be able to make more use of the other things that
iClone offers, such as the 3D sets and possibly particle effects to make the iClone segments of the videos more eye catching.

Please go and check out Dr. Nemesis' great sites at www.binarypictureshow.com & his GNEWS blog site found HERE.

It's All About Texture: FREE Character 4U

As I've said before, it's all about texture when you create unique characters in iClone. Hi-res images are the best things you can use. In doing so, you're able to zoom in with nice close ups on the character. And please take the time to make the eyes and mouth fit just right , so you have that flawless facial movement you really want. Here's a character I made quite some time ago. Don't ya just wanna plant a kiss on those lips? I know I do (What a dork!). I think I shared a similar one a while back, but I'm almost positive this is the first time I've shared this particular one. I call her "Mia". FREE Project File, with Little Girl Character

I've been a bad blogger. I normally post something here every two days. But I've slacked off. Actually, my house had to be tented for termites. Nasty little buggers. So I apologize, folks. I dug into my old library of iClone creations and found this "termite free" house. It's a project file I made and shared a while back. I shared the character at Renderosity a while back too. Nothing magnificent. Just small and sweet. It has a little girl and the animated cat prop character that came with your program. So save this file as a PROJECT. Then if you want, save the girl as a CHARACTER, and the cat as a PROP. The scene was easy to make. Just used the building blocks. Someone Emailed me today and didn't realize he could do many of the things I've shown here. It sounded like he really didn't dig into iClone and experiment too much. I encourage you all to do so. I , myself, am finally getting around to working with the timeline and more building blocks. But when he asked how to use the building blocks and more, I told him to hang in there because www.iclonetutorials.com will be opening on the 21st. NOTE: I don't own the site. It's run by another iClone fanatic :). It sounds like a really great place to learn. Ok, termites are gone, Pauly's back. Enjoy!

FREE Prop/Accessory 4U: "Old Time Telephone"

Sorry, I skipped a day for posts. Been swamped with some neat stuff coming up for all of you. But I wanted to share with you, this prop I made. I know it's not much when you compare it to the characters I usually share. But I thought it was cool nonetheless. I normally don't build my own props, but I needed one of those old time telephones for an iClone movie I'm making. So I turned to our handy "building blocks" that come with iClone. I LOVE the building blocks. Seriously, you can build ANYTHING you need! This phone here comes in TWO files. The part that is dialed, and the part that is held up to your ear. To make it work for your needs, you should first save them separately as PROPS. And to get them to load into your scene already together, you should use your MERGE button and then saved the merged version as a PROP. To get it to work as an accessory, so that your character can hold the phone pieces, you need to also save a copy of BOTH files into your ACCESSORIES library. Then you can attach the pieces to your characters' hands. Little by little, I'm experimenting more and more with the building blocks. I'd suggest you play with them too, if you haven't already. They REALLY are amazing!

FREE Character 4U: "HUNTRESS"

Women are amazing creatures. I've been married for almost 16 years, and through the years my wife has evolved into a fierce warrior. She's able to run her own business, put our daughter through school, take care of her elderly parents, and deal with my crazy artistic highs and lows. Gotta give the woman credit. For the past two years she's been studying and competing in Martial Arts. The girl can kick butt. But it sure is a night and day difference from the young girl I met 17 years ago, and the "huntress" she is now. So here's my salute to all the strong women out there. It's a character I shared a while back at the forum. But if you never got it then, now's your chance. It's based on a gaming character, with a similar name.
Bless you women. We men need ladies like you to set us straight.

FREE Character 4U: "Death Monk"

I shared this character some time ago with only a selected few. I'm making it available to everyone now. I call him "Death Monk". He's a Buddhist Monk gone bad, kind of like another Rebel Monk character I posted here a while back, "Ogdor the Rebel Monk". So now you have two Mad Monks. Download them and have an all out Monk brawl. My money is on this guy.

The Real Clone Wars & New iClone Tutorials Forum

A couple of days ago, I posted an article about a new alternative iClone forum called The Freedom Forum. As I said, it is a place to let your hair down and say things you normally would refrain from saying at most iClone forums. I myself, have already indulged in the "brutally honest, speak your mind" concept over there. It's kind of like a pub hangout for iClone users, so needless to say, children are not allowed. Although recent rivalry between forums has shown that we can ALL act like children at times. I'm guilty as charged and would publicly like to bury the hatchet and move on. Having said that, it's refreshing to see a site emerge, like the one I'm about to tell you about. iCloneTutorials.Com is here. It's a place where you can take a deep breath and go back to the basics of what is truly important in regards to iClone, ...learning from eachother,...and all the amazing newly discovered possibilities. The site was created by Neil Armstrong, a highly talented artist and MAJOR supporter of Reallusion's iClone. I had a chance to talk to Neil about his work and his new site. .....

PAULY: Tell us about your background in digital art.

NEIL: I started out in the early eighties as a Commercial and Industrial Professional Photographer as an f.m.i.p. I started out with the best income from freelance work, diversifying into Computer Graphics from Photo graphics in the early Nineties, saw headway with clients like Rolls Royce Caterpillar, Boots the Chemist, Zanussi, Electrolux, S.A.S., I.C.I, to name but a few. One site I created was hailed by the UK Chief of Police as Europe's Safest Child site with VPN for child mail, and a follow on contract saw one of our creations officially Launched in England's Parliamentary House of Commons with Tony Blair interest, Chriss Tarrant, David Blunket, Charles Clarke and so on and so on. Medals of Freelance Determination. We're not new to success stories.

PAULY: What gravitated you to iClone?

NEIL: For years I've watched technologies grow. I was disappointed at the prices of the giants which to me, kept their software in an elitist boundary inaccessible to those who can be deemed the more creative through diversity of lifestyles and geographical location because of idiot prices. Reallusion's iClone Studio smashes through these ostentatious barriers with a fire.

PAULY: Do you use any other programs when working with iClone?

NEIL: Yes. Usually, Paint Shop Pro, once JASC now Corels, SwishMax for Flash, Turbine Video Encoder for ultimately superb Streaming flash play web side. Camtasia Studio, Windows Movie Maker, Windows Media Encoder and many others but they're my choice and not all necessary for the beginner.

PAULY: What is your philosophy on networking with other iClone users?

NEIL: The elements are such that we should be working AMONGST other iClone Studio users and WITH Reallusion. We should all be individual with our approach and creative output. Working tightly with Reallusion will promote their operations which in turn keeps development levels up, sales high and output cost effective. ...Vitally important.

PAULY: Tell us about your new site/forum?

NEIL: The new www.iclonetutorials.com forum is being officially launched on the 21st of April, but is open for testing now. Many tutorials are ready for posting, just being polished. In a simple graphical format, lessons will show elements totally being ignored at the moment simply because people are ramming up forums but ignoring the primaries. iCloneTutorials.com will be unique, beneficial to all levels of expertise and incorporate plenty of ideas that will entertain, educate and open doors currently not even built let alone closed.

PAULY: Where do you see iClone and it's community of users, in about a year from now?

NEIL: I see Reallusion's iClone Studio breaking down all the obstacle barriers in this field of Animation online and off. Already they're bringing the 'big boys' down to the correct perspective. In a years time??? Full screen streaming. Very high resolution Character, accessory and Prop creation even more advanced, integrated development tools and another element I can't discuss at the moment here, as it's the initial launch subject of iCloneTutorials.com, this week. You'll have to wait.

PAULY: Is there anything else you'd like to share with us?

NEIL: All those currently using iClone... It's fun to have Guys and Gals running about in the Pink, sure. I'm as red blooded as the next Guy. But be careful not to trash iClone and make it look like an idiots zone. Reallusion's iClone Studio is an international breakthrough and one that we need to present with a little tact, class and thoroughbred appeal. I've seen companies stall before because of their user-failings. If we want to see Reallusion & iClone Studio grow and grow fast, it's up to US to make sure the impression is mind blowing. If you do this and one person is inspired enough to make a purchase from your work, you're succeeding, and on the way to enhancing development superiority and cost effective as a result. Post ONE superb image, not ten mediocre ones. Post a Mind blowing 10 second animation. Not a 3 minute one.

Thanks, Neil. We'll be seeing a lot more of Neil and his great work with iClone.

A CONTROVERIAL FORUM EMERGES!

THE FREEDOM FORUM is a contoversial place where you can say anything you want. It was created by a few iClone users, but according to its' creators, you can post and say pretty much anything you want. Because of this though, there is an age restriction to 18 and over (which, as a parent, I totally support). If you're offended easily, this IS NOT the place for you. But it's definitely a place to let your hair down.
Another 3d artist who is absolutely iClone brilliant, will also be opening up a very cool iClone Forum. Although they're taking members now for testing, the official grand opening of www.iclonetutorials.com will be in mid April.
ALSO, stay tuned for MyClones for iClone's official 3d content online store, opening very soon. What a country, eh? Big thanks to Reallusion for re-vamping their licensing agreement. This is great! We need more iClone sites. We ALL benefit from iClone being promoted. So go for it, folks! Open a forum, open an online store, a YOUTUBE iClone group, post on Renderosity, open a blog site. Just spread the word that iClone is here, and you, the artists, are here to stay.

FREE 2.0 Character with Sexy Customized Outfit 4U

Well, iClone 2.0 is finally here, and I personally love it. I did however, think that the 9 new G2 characters would come with it, as well as the long dress iClone cloth. I was a bit disappointed that this would not be the case. But, nonetheless, it's an amazing next level in "iCloning". With the supplied cloth, I was able to create my first customized outfit. We're long overdue for a hot babe here at the blog, so for you, my fellow acolytes of the Machinima persuasion, here she is, live and UNCENSORED.
Here's how I did it.....
1) Click UPPER, MODIFY, DIFFUSE LAUNCH, template opens in PHOTOSHOP

2) I Choose the MAGIC WAND tool, CLICK in Template image, COPY, NEW, PASTE, it copies a new IMAGE, but with the body template now all in white.

3) I edit the image, keeping white on what I want to be the clothes, and black on what I do not want.

4) I SAVE A COPY as UPPER DIFFUSE, UPDATE, it applies, with white AND BLACK. Now to get rid of the black and replace with skin, I do the following...

5) Click OPACITY LAUNCH, Photoshop opens, I close the default image it brings up, and focus on the earlier edited image that I just saved as diffuse. I click SAVE A COPY, and save it as UPPER OPACITY. UPDATE, and it applies, now revealing the skin. Now to apply the texture over the white clothes....

6) Click DIFFUSE LAUNCH, close any image photoshop opens by default, and again, I only focus on the image I have been editing and saving. I bring in a texture, jpg, and simply copy and paste it over any white on the edited image. SAVE A COPY as UPPER DIFFUSE, UPDATE, and presto, .....Done!

Enjoy!
